Eat a proper meal beforehand and stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. Wear clothing that gives easy access to the placement area, and do not shave the area yourself unless asked to.

Custom work always starts with a consultation so the design, size and placement are agreed before your tattoo appointment is confirmed. Small and fine-line pieces can often be booked directly.

Any reference images, even rough ones, plus a rough idea of placement and size. Mention any skin conditions or allergies so they can be taken into account.

Tattooing is subject to the minimum age set by law in the studio's location, and valid ID is required. The exact requirement and accepted forms of ID are set out in the tattoo consent information.

Follow the written aftercare instructions you are given in the studio. In general: keep the area clean, avoid soaking it, do not pick or scratch while it heals, and keep it out of direct sun — using sun protection once it has healed.
